  • Wholegrain: Popcorn is a 100% wholegrain food, providing fibre that supports gut health and satiety.
  • High in fibre: Around 4–5 g of fibre per 3-cup (24 g) serving of air-popped popcorn.
  • Low in calories: Air-popped popcorn contains approximately 90–100 calories per 3 cups.
  • Naturally gluten-free: A great option for those with coeliac disease or gluten intolerance.
  • Rich in polyphenols: Popcorn contains antioxidants called polyphenols, which are concentrated in the hull and may help protect cells from oxidative stress.
  • Supports blood sugar balance: Its combination of fibre and wholegrain carbohydrates makes it more satisfying than many processed snack foods.

Make it even healthier, try these:

  • Fresh herbs and spices
  • Nutritional yeast
  • Freshly grated Parmesan
  • Pink, black or Szechuan peppercorns

Freshly popped Parmesan and pink pepper popcorn in a serving bowl, seasoned with crushed pink peppercorns and grated Parmesan cheese, perfect for a gourmet movie night snack.

Ingredients

Scale

3/4 cup popcorn

1 tablespoon Brookfarm Premium Grade Macadamia Oil

1 teaspoon pink peppercorns, crushed

Pinch salt

1 tablespoon freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Heat the macadamia oil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat until hot, but not smoking.
  2. Add 3 popcorn kernels and cover with a lid. Once they have popped, remove the saucepan from the heat and add the remaining popcorn kernels.
  3. Return the saucepan to the heat, cover with the lid and gently shake the pan occasionally as the popcorn cooks. When the popping slows to several seconds between pops, remove from the heat.
  4. Transfer the popcorn to a large serving bowl. Sprinkle with the crushed pink peppercorns and salt, then toss to combine.
  5. Finish with freshly grated Parmesan and serve immediately while warm.

Notes

For the best flavour, grind the pink peppercorns just before serving. Their delicate aroma fades quickly once crushed, so freshly cracked peppercorns make all the difference.

Freshly grated Parmesan also melts onto the warm popcorn far better than pre-grated varieties.

Serve immediately while still warm alongside sparkling water with lemon, kombucha or your favourite glass of crisp white wine. It also makes a wonderful addition to grazing boards or homemade edible gifts.

Once you’ve tried pink peppercorns on popcorn, you’ll be looking for excuses to sprinkle them over roasted vegetables, fresh salads and creamy cheeses too.
